SFC vs FC Buffalo
Match Date: June 9, 2018
Syracuse FC dropped its fourth-straight game in a 2-0 loss to FC Buffalo on Saturday night at OCC’s Lazer Stadium.
In the sixth minute, Syracuse FC was able to create its first chance of the evening through forward Jake Kohlbrenner. However, he wasn’t able to get his opportunity out and test FC Buffalo goalkeeper Figler.
The action did not stop. In the 11th minute, Syracuse goalkeeper Jake Leahy came up to prevent a shot to his left. A minute later, a chance by SFC forward Ben Ramin was cleared off the line. The same situation happened on the other side of the field five minutes later, as Syracuse cleared a chance off its line against FC Buffalo.
Ramin had another opportunity in the 35th minute when he found himself with only Figler to beat. The Buffalo keeper blocked Ramin and the match remained scoreless. Then Leahy made an outstretched save off a chipped shot from FC Buffalo defender Camilli right at halftime to keep the score at 0-0.
The second half started well for Syracuse with an opening shot by Kohlbrenner that was blocked in the 51st minute. Buffalo’s Williamson blocked another shot from Ramin off the line in 57th minute.
Less than a minute later FC Buffalo scored the opening goal of the game when forward McFayden made his way through the Syracuse defense and finished past Leahy.
It went from bad to worse for Syracuse FC as Miguel Tunas and Nate Bourdeau clashed against each other. Tunas needed to be replaced right away, forcing Syracuse FC coach Matt Tantalo to sub in midfielder Sam Daniel.
FC Buffalo continued their attack, and Leahy kept Syracuse in the game with low saves and quick awareness of the line.
Syracuse continued to knock on the door using the flanks to try and create chances, but crosses by Syracuse defender Jon Austin Ricks couldn’t find Ramin to finish. Bourdeau was able to return to the game in the 75th minute.
FC Buffalo was awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute after Jon-Austin Ricks picked up a yellow card for a foul in the box on FC Buffalo’s Walsh. Buffalo’s McIvor scored from the spot to double his team’s advantage.
With plenty of injury time, Syracuse had chances to grab a goal to come back into this game. The best chance came from a header off Bourdeau in extra time, but it sailed over the bar.
Syracuse finishes its three-game home stand when they play Greater Binghamton FC on June 13. This is the second matchup between the two teams. Syracuse won the first matchup 7-1.
