Keeping with Monolith's mission the organization is pursuing a United Soccer League, First Division franchise in Syracuse, New York. Syracuse was the home of a USL club from 2003 thru 2004. The former club was 2nd and 3rd in attendance respectively and found tremendous support both from the fans and the corporate community. The club ceased operations in November 2004 due to an undercapitalized business plan. "Syracuse is a tremendous market that did very well at the gate and with corporate sponsorship; it's unfortunate that the business operations side wasn't as strong as the support for the club," stated Allen LaVenture, Executive Vice President of Monolith. more 2007-02-15 06:00:00 Monolith Athletic Club and Syracuse Baseball Forge an Understanding MARCELLUS, NY--(MARKET WIRE)--Jan 24, 2007 -- Monolith Athletic Club, LLC (Other OTC:MNAB.PK - News) announced today that they have had positive conversations with the AAA International Baseball League's Syracuse Skychiefs. Monolith Athletic Club is in the process of returning professional soccer to the Salt City. Syracuse had a professional soccer franchise that ceased operations in 2004 due to financial difficulties. One of those difficulties was finding common ground with the Alliance Bank Stadium's primary tenant the Syracuse Skychiefs. Although an Onondaga County owned facility the Skychiefs have certain rights within their lease agreement entitling them to portions of revenue generated by the facility. This caused the now defunct franchise to have separate agreements with both the county and the baseball club over use of the stadium, concessions and expenses. "When there are two agreements within the same facility there is the possibility of essentially paying twice for same thing and I think that is exactly what happened with the last club," stated Allen LaVenture, Executive Vice President of Monolith. "I don't think either the Skychiefs, or the County were looking to put the team in that position but it appears that is what happened; which is unfortunate because both parties have expressed that having professional soccer is positive for everyone." more 2007-02-15 06:00:00 Monolith Athletic Club Begins Negotiations With the United Soccer Leagues Monolith Athletic Club, LLC (MNAB - news) has entered negotiations with the United Soccer League to return a professional First Division franchise to Syracuse, N.Y. Syracuse was the home of a USL franchise during the 2003 and 2004 seasons before ceasing operations at the end of their second season. "Syracuse was a vibrant market that supported the team on and off the field. It is unfortunate that the management had funding issues from the beginning, which put them in a precarious situation even before the team played its first match," stated Allen LaVenture, Executive Vice President of Monolith. The initial conversations between Monolith and the league have centered around the desire of both parties to see a strong organization take the helm and bring a team back to Syracuse. Several issues that led to demise of the prior franchise have been addressed and need to be resolved before Monolith can "officially" apply for a franchise. The former team had to work around a nearly decade old "feud" between Onondaga County (owners of the professional stadium) and the AAA baseball team (primary tenant of the stadium). This caused a tremendous amount of additional expense for field conversion, concession revenues, and several other issues that amounted to the club paying essentially double rent. One of the other concerns that affected the prior team was a rights fee for the Syracuse territory that is owned by another USL team. "The league certainly sees Syracuse as a market that works and can be successful if structured properly and many of the financially constricting agreements are restructured or renegotiated. Obviously we are of the same opinion, the market is definitely viable, we as an organization need to put the right type of plan in place, secure proper funding and negotiate deals that create a franchise which can be successful on the field and on the bottom line," added LaVenture. more 2007-02-15 06:00:00 Monolith Athletic Club Impressed by the USL Model for Future of Professional Soccer Monolith Athletic Club, LLC (MNAB - news) , a sports and recreation holding company, has identified a potential opportunity in Syracuse, N.Y. to bring professional soccer back to the community. Syracuse, in the past, had a team that left after the 2004 season which was part of the United Soccer Leagues' First Division. "When we looked at Syracuse as a possibility it was important to be involved with a league that shared the same vision and grassroots commitments towards soccer that Monolith has. The United Soccer Leagues has a history of providing just that, from youth levels all the way up to premier professional soccer," stated Allen LaVenture, Executive Vice President of Monolith. "We are excited by this opportunity and look forward to speaking with the league and laying out a path that would bring a First Division team back to Upstate N.Y.," LaVenture added. more 2007-02-12 06:00:00 more 2007-02-03 06:00:00 W-LEAGUE RHINOS ANNOUNCE 2007 SCHEDULE Rochester, NY - January 25th, 2007 The Rochester Rhinos Women of the United Soccer Leagues W-League announced their 2007 schedule today.
